Abdulla is a graduate from The University of Toronto who started blogging because he really enjoyed writing as a hobby. Although he wrote a lot for school, he didn’t find it fulfilling enough, so he decided to combine his passion for fashion and writing and create a menswear blog where he could help other gentleman dress and feel great.
Recently, Abdulla began focusing on lifestyle and wellness content because he believes these two areas are very important. Based on positive feedback and constructive criticism, he’s decided to pursue his blog further and continue to grow it as a personal brand where he also does style consulting and personal shopping. It has been a world of trial and error, but it’s really exciting being able to express his voice informally through writing, while also having the opportunity to work with great bands. Abdulla has been really humbled by the experience he’s gained over the past years and he appreciates all the support he has gotten along the way.
What was your first job?
I was a line cook at a Mexican restaurant called Mexicali Rosa’s. It was pretty much child labor; I was 16. Good times.
Best advice for people getting started in your industry?
Find what you love, and start talking about it or taking photos about it through a blog or Instagram for example. It’s not that bad, I promise!
What are your favourite media outlets, not including your own?
I’m always on Reddit for almost everything, but I love podcasts! (SPI podcast, Tim Ferriss, Robin Sharma)
Best interview you’ve ever had?
Interviews, perhaps one day haha. Definitely the campaign with Toyota though, it was a lot of fun driving out into nowhere and I had a great time shooting with my buddy Sean. The Rav4 Hybrid is one heck of a ride too.
When I was starting out, I did a small project with YourTea (yes, I’m laughing too). I had no idea how to properly put content together and I procrastinated a bit. Needless to say, it’s not my favorite.
What rule(s) do you live your life by?
Laundry and dishes. I wish I could magically make those chores disappear.
Reading while I have nothing else on my mind. Such a blissful feeling.
You’re boarding a plane tomorrow. Where are you headed?
Ouuh Taiwan! It’s been a while and there’s honestly so much to see, not to mention the amazing food.
I don’t really ‘keep up with the Kardashians’, but uhhh Kylie seems chill.
Who would be cast to play you in the movie version of your life?
Um Adrian Grenier or Enrique Iglesias? People say I look like them.
The Wire. Best show ever.
It’s a tie between Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.
My parents! Humble and hard working people that have given me way more than I could ask for.
Song of the moment?
“I Feel it Coming” – Daft Punk and The Weeknd
One thing you can’t live without?
This is cliche and boring, but it’s water. I drink so much and it really does wonders for me!
