From Lady Gaga performing with Metallica to Bruno Mars paying tribute to Prince, the Grammys were full of memorable and iconic moments. Of all of award season, the biggest night in music is also one of our favourite nights for fashion. Musicians typically take more risks with their wardrobes than actors, serving up daring, shocking, and sometimes strange looks on the red carpet. Although the fashion risk takers can cause polarizing opinions, we love that the evening allows for A-list stars to show their personal style. We’ve rounded up our best and worst dressed from the 2017 Grammy awards.
Adele was the big winner of the night, taking home five Grammys, and providing us with two of our favourite moments of the night. First, when she slayed on the red carpet wearing a gorgeous green Givenchy gown. And second, when she dedicated her award to a teary-eyed Beyonce and THEN broke her Grammy in half for Beyonce (can you say Mean Girls). Heiress to pop royalty and a fashion it-girl to be, Paris Jackson stunned in a rainbow Balmain jumpsuit. The look was elegant yet effortless in a way that’s just screaming for her to be the fashion industry’s next muse. From one muse to another, @badgalriri has owned the Grammys red carpet year after year. Although we did expect more, we thought her hair and makeup was a little too “Pon da Reply” and the colour combo wasn’t our favourite, no one could rock this Armani Prive look better than our fave bad gal, especially once you added the bejewelled flask.
Speaking of rocking…. that is exactly what Lady Gaga did on the red carpet and the stage. If anyone else had worn this… can you even call it a top? Extended shoulder pad and embellished underwear combo? They would have landed on the worst dressed list for sure. But Gaga looked so fierce strutting down the carpet and working those sunglasses. We couldn’t take our eyes off her in the best way possible. We also loved Halsey’s ode to TLC with this matching and revealing blue silk pantsuit. And never one to shy away from fashion risks, Solange’s Gucci dress is so quintessentially Solange it may as well have been made just for her.
Although we love fashion risk takers, sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don’t. JLo’s plunging neck line at Grammys 2000 will forever go down in fashion history, but unfortunately this year was a swing and a miss for the pop icon. The only thing exciting about the pale lilac gown was the large flower by her neck, which was just distracting us from her miraculously never aging face. Chrissy Teigen’s look however had way too much going on. From the lace up detailing to the makeup and hair, we will forever love you and your Instagram award show commentary Chrissy, but you can do better. Katy Perry shocked everyone by debuting a new blonde bob at the Grammys. We loved the hair and makeup but were not into the silhouette and overwhelming textures of this dress.
But, fashion aside, if we had to pick one girl who won the Grammys this year…. it would be….
You keep doing you Blue.
