March is just around the corner, which means award season is coming to an end. On Sunday, Hollywood celebrated the 89th Annual Academy Awards. With Hollywood’s biggest and brightest in the limelight, a chic red carpet look is essential. As guests made their way into The Dolby Theatre, the world watched as their favourite stars debuted their award night ensembles on the red carpet. Although fashion risk-takers can cause dividing opinions, we love that the evening allows for A-listers to showcase their personal style in customized gowns and diamonds galore. We’ve rounded up our best and worst dressed from the 2017 Oscars.

The Best

Without a doubt, at the top of our best dressed list is the always classic Emma Stone, who dazzled in Tiffany & Co. jewels and a gold Givenchy Haute Couture gown custom designed by Riccardo Tisci. The dress’ hue perfectly complemented the Oscar she accepted for Best Actress for her role in La La Land. Moving to the other end of the colour spectrum, we loved Taraji P. Henson’s dress. The Hidden Figures star rocked the carpet in a custom off-the-shoulder navy velvet gown by Alberta Ferretti, which she paired with Nirav jewels. Her diamond choker, black clutch and strappy heels were the perfect finishing touches. Once again, Chrissy Teigen shut it down on the red carpet. Wooing us with her wit, charm and hilarious personality, the Sports Illustrated model wore a sparkly Zuhair Murad couture dress, strappy gold stilettos and a shiny clutch. Even though her husband, John Legend, admitted to stepping on her train a few times while chatting with Entertainment Tonight, it remained impeccable throughout the show’s entirety – even if she did fall asleep during Casey Affleck’s acceptance speech.

Lion star Nicole Kidman looked poised and polished in a custom Armani Privé gown, reminiscent of the new Spring 2017 Privé Collection (debuted at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week) on the red carpet. Jessica Biel dazzled in gold rocking a fully embellished Kaufman Franco gown and Tiffany & Co. jewelry (a 2017 carpet favourite). Her sophisticated up-do and natural makeup complimented the entire effortless yet glamorous look. Scream Queens star Emma Roberts looked like a vintage vixen in an Armani Privé gown. The combination of elegance and retro coupled with her signature red locks and lips made it an absolute favourite for us.

The Worst

While there were plenty of celebs that knocked it out of the park, there was a handful of A-listers that didn’t quite leave us in awe. Manchester by the Sea actress Michelle Williams took the plunge in a very underwhelming black and cream Louis Vuitton dress. Having previously been the face behind the brand, we were hoping to see her in something more edgy. We love Leslie Mann and we love that she chose to wear a pop of colour at an event that was dominated by neutral tones and shimmery metallics, however she completely missed the mark. Not to say there weren’t elements of the dress we didn’t appreciated (like the full skirt and bow detail), we weren’t in love with the whole Belle vibe. Opting for a long sleeve gold Gucci dress, Dakota Johnson disguised her figure with a high ruffled neck, enormous bow at the waist and a wrinkled hem. Not so lovely in Alaia, Scarlett Johansson played up the pretty and the rock-and-roll on the red carpet, and to be honest, we find it a bit overwhelming. We aren’t sure if pairing a pink and purple patterned gown with silver and black studded accent pieces was the best look for ScarJo.

But ladies aside, if we had to pick one person who completely stole our hearts it would be Sunny Pawar.
