Each May, the South of France receives a significant dose of star power thanks to the annual (and arguably the most prestigious) Cannes Film Festival. For more than half a century, the festival debuts the year’s buzziest films, and this year was an (added) celebration of its 70th anniversary. Debatably the most coveted and glamourous event of the year, the festival welcomes over a week of red carpet looks ranging from the chic to the sexy with some of the world’s biggest A-listers. Whether it be models ushering in Old Hollywood elegance or modern sophistication, there was no shortage of couture fashion and statement jewellery on the red carpet. Check out some of our fave looks from Cannes 2017.
Models always bring show-stopping moments to the Cannes Film Festival and KJ definitely didn’t disappoint. With an impressive amount of quick changes (six), Kenny stole the show at the 120 Beats Per Minute premiere wearing a majestic gown from Giambattista Valli Couture. One of the many gorgeous outfits Kenny rocked this weekend, we love the long train and feminine floral print. The Kardashian-Jenner also rocked an asymmetrical top from Alexander Vauthier Haute Couture, which she dressed down with a denim pair of daisy dukes and black patent leather pumps – we have dubbed this her signature 2017 Cannes look.
Queen Ri hit the Cannes red carpet in Dior Haute Couture looking incredible and let’s be honest, those glasses were a total hit. The custom Dior creation was a stark white gown with a billowing off-the-shoulder cape. Although the gown is truly simple in design, Rihanna wears it like it (ain’t) nobody’s business. We love that badgalriri accessorized her look with a diamond cuff that snaked up most of her wrist and a matching rock on her pointer finger that was equally jaw-dropping. She finished it off with a simple pair of slim white sunglasses that complemented her cleanly styled updo.
Lily Rose Depp
The up-and-coming actress, model and face of Chanel hit the red carpet at the premiere of Ismael’s Ghosts in a Grecian-inspired white gown with waist cutouts and embellished golden detailing. From the Chanel Resort 2018 collection, the 17 year old’s relaxed look paired perfectly with her natural waves and sun-kissed skin. We can’t wait to see where this style supernova ends up next.
We remember seeing this Dior dress on the spring/summer 2017 runway, but we are more obsessed with it on Elle Fanning! Not only do we love the colourful pops of floral, we appreciate how Elle consistently looks age appropriate, elegant and poised at every red carpet event. The blonde, fresh-faced babe wore no jewels which was a nice change from the otherwise glitzy carpet.
It is no secret that Nicole Kidman dominates at Cannes. The 49-year-old actress has attended this legendary festival for decades, and has donned everything from vest-trouser getups in 1992 to putting on a full-on fashion show in 2013 when she had an impressive 11 different outfit changes. Now, with four movies set to debut at the 2017 festival, her sartorial savviness shows no signs of slowing down, which is why were totally in love with this years red carpet picks. At the premiere of How to Talk to Girls, Kidman wore a totally frilly, totally sequin-y Rodarte fall/winter 2017-18 design, and we’re into it!
Not only did we love drooling over the different, eye-popping pieces Lily Collins wore throughout her week in Cannes, we were obsessed with stalking her ever-changing hair styles too. Our favourite look was this Ralph and Russo princess dress, a different take from her traditional bold looks. Dripping in Bulgari jewels, we love the off-the-shoulder, sweetheart neckline, smokey eye and neutral lip.
Although many millennial model squad members flooded red carpets throughout the French Riviera, we loved seeing them alongside style icon Namoi Campbell. Considered the OG of the runway, Campbell opted for a black Atelier Versace gown with a small train and feather detailing. Not only were we happy to see Campbell enjoying the South of France all week long, we loved that she hosted her (12th) annual Fashion For Relief charity event to raise money for Save The Children. GIRL POWER!
Baby Bells was the definition of old Hollywood glam in a pale pink Alexandre Vauthier dress from Opening Gala. The model struck a pose on the red carpet at the premiere of Ismael’s Ghosts in a strapless ballet-slipper-pink gown with a daring slit. She paired the piece with bejewelled sandals and a chain-link necklace with a large sapphire pendant by Bulgari. Her fresh, new lob (re: long bob) was on total display but we love how it paired perfectly with her strapless attire.
Leave it to K-Stew to bring the edgiest possible take on Chanel tweed to the 120 Beats Per Minute premiere. The actress wore an outré ensemble comprising of an ab-baring bra top/dress combo, which complemented her new short, bleached hair. She accessorized with sexy black stilettos and a simple silver bracelet.
Uma Therman stole the show in her Atelier Versace gown and Christian Louboutin ‘Blakissima’ sandals. Channeling Old Hollywood glam, Thurman sizzled in a blush, retro off-the-shoulder dress with a high slit and layered detailing across the shoulders. The blonde beauty was also this years President of the Un Certain Regard competition, which honors films told in nontraditional ways.
That’s a wrap from the South of France – next up, TIFF.
