As many of you fashionistas know, last night was the most coveted (and glamourous) blue carpet event of the year, the Met Gala. Every year, Vogue hosts the Ball to recognize the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and over the years, it has become the most sought-after ticket in Hollywood. This season, the theme was Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between and a celebration of the visionary designer Rei Kawakubo and the label she launched in Tokyo in 1973. This was a huge year for Rei Kawakubo, as she is the first living designer (since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983) to be the sole subject of the Met’s blockbuster fashion exhibit. From an array of red gowns to numerous choppy black bobs (referencing Kawakubo’s own signature hairstyle) we’ve rounded up the best looks from the 2017 Met Gala.
KJ is no stranger to showing off a little skin. Whether it be in her street style looks or strutting down the Victoria Secret Runway, Kendall loves to bare it all. Sporting a glitter-flecked couture La Perla number, Kendall left little to the imagination – especially with the dress’s open back and lace thong. The slip also featured a bold cut across the abdomen, showing off her toned midriff and killer body. We especially loved her red lips that matched her red soles. PS: if you’re wondering what lipstick KJ is wearing (and wanting it for yourself), it is none other than Estée Lauder’s Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Reckless – a limited edition shade from her new collection so grab it quick.
Gigi Hadid killed it on the blue carpet rocking caramel from head to toe. Debuting her new locks (which she dyed a shade of soft brown), the model wore an asymmetrical deconstructed jacket dress made custom for her by Tommy Hilfiger. While it’s not the first time Hadid has gone to the dark side, we were totally digging her pure punk look. The cool, new incarnation of the shade took the monochromatic dress to the next level.
ICYMI, Selena Gomez made her blue carpet debut wearing custom Coach walking hand-in-hand with arm candy and new beau The Weekend. While last year we saw her in a tough leather vest and combat boots by Louis Vuitton, this year she went for an unabashedly feminine turn that evoked summer love and romantic vibes. The silk chiffon dress featured vintage lace paneling, hand-sewn floral embroidery and prismatic sequins that mimicked prints from the Coach 1941 Pre-Fall 2017 collection…and we loved it.
Lily Collins is no stranger to bold beauty moves and we love how she fully embraced the avant-garde theme. Although she regularly rocks dark, bold lips and full brows, we love how she accentuated her look with a blunt banged haircut and frothy pink ensemble.
Wearing a custom Ralph Lauren white cut-out dress with red thigh high boots, VS model Lily Aldridge (kind of) captured the night’s avant-garde theme. While the outfit confuses us, we love the juxtaposition of the white and red colour against the magenta scarf around her face (a tribute to one of the designer’s past collections).
Kravitz who’s still slaying her new cropped cut, wore an Oscar de la Renta gown – different from her traditional red carpet attire. While it’s not the most interesting gown on the carpet, we appreciated the soft feminine touches paired with a smoky eye and pale pink lip. We definitely respect this look and thinks she looks fab!
Williams rocked the blue carpet in a custom long-sleeve Diane von Furstenberg gown that featured layering and a black corset, adding the perfect shape to the Girls star’s Old Hollywood glam. We love that she amped up the otherwise simple look with a winged eye and bold red lip and how she confidently rocked her new blonde do.
Kim Kardashian West
The highly anticipated KKW showed up solo to the 2017 Met Gala in an off-the-shoulder number designed by Vivienne Westwood. A stark contrast to her previous looks (feminine floral Givenchy or futuristic Balmain), Keeks kept it super simple and clean sporting no bling, a structured bob and minimal makeup. Although many said they expected more from Kimmy, we loved how she totally surprised us with this refreshing change.
Major props to RiRi for sticking to the theme and actually wearing Comme des Garçons! So many A-listers played it super safe, barely honouring designer Rei Kawakubo, but Rihanna 100% came through. BadGal shut it down on the blue carpet with this multi-layered 3D creation that nearly swamped her, but obviously The Bad Gal had the stature to pull it off and totally rock it!
Kate dialed up the fashion drama at the 2017 Met Gala as she was one of the few ladies rocking an all-black gown. The actress wore a custom Tory Burch gown with plenty of volume and structural elements. Her classic sleeked back bun and bold raspberry lip paired perfectly with her otherwise vampy look.
Can you say revenge bod goals? Leave it to Baby Bells to steal the show at the 2017 Met Gala, wearing a glittering catsuit designed by none other than Alexander Wang. We love how Wang was daring enough to design a catsuit for Bella because it’s definitely untouched territory at the Met Ball. Inspired by the goth-meets-glam looks from his Fall 2017 Collection, Bella rocked the form-fitting, scoop back piece and we were totally in love.
We don’t know about you, but we are experiencing a complete fashion overload, and we love it.
